What Are Hydrosols?

Hydrosol is a created when essential oils are extracted from plant material during the distillation process. The plant material is placed into the still and the process begins. The water is brought to the boiling point, softening the scent or secretory cells releasing the essential oil that is contained within as a vapor. This essential oil vapor mixes with the steam and runs through the condenser and is cooled to form liquid. The essential oil molecules separate from the steam and float on the water and the remaining water is hydrosol.

True hydrosols are only produced through steam, hydro or hydro/distillation of plant material. Therefore, be cautious of products that claim to be hydrosols, or floral waters, that are essential oils added to water.

Hydrosols contain all the essence of the plant, like the essential oils, but in a milder form, so they are safe and gentle to use directly from the bottle.

We plant, grow, harvest, clean, distill and bottle all of the plants used in our essential oils and hydrosols. We do not spray any chemicals on the plants or add anything to the final product.

We welcome any questions you may have about essential oils or hydrosols you may have.
