The Adventure Begins 1/26/2019

Updated: Nov 18, 2020

In the summer of 2018, my husband and I became empty nesters. My husband seemed fine with it, apparently most men do, at least the ones we know, but I wasn’t doing so well. I missed the endless chaos, noise and mess that comes with raising 3 kids and some of their friends. I missed being needed, the sleepless nights and everything else that comes with being a mom. I knew I needed something to fill my time, even though I work full time outside the house, there were still hours in the day that I needed to fill. Crazy right?!?

That winter our oldest daughter, Kayla, told us about going to a lavender field where her and my grandson were able to pick lavender, buy lavender products and learn how to make a lavender wreath. She then proceeded to say, “You guys should grow lavender, it will be fun.” Well….we do have a few acres and what seemed like extra time and of course ”it will be fun”.

After much convincing, my husband was on board. I just explained to him how easy it was going to be, how much fun it would be, (remember “it will be fun”), and how much more time we would spend together. Oh, did I mention there was the purchase of a little red Massey Ferguson tractor, the power of persuasion! Her name is Sassy Massey! (It is a must that everything has a name)

On January 26th of 2019 the weather was amazing, which is crazy, we live in Idaho for goodness sake! We hit the ground running, well after it was brought to my attention that we would need a several implements for the tractor, thank goodness I work at a Massey dealer! We started pulling out fence posts, taking down barbed wire and working the ground.

There are a few things that I will always remember about the beginning of our lavender farming adventure….Massey Ferguson rocks, “it will be fun”, and I really, really dislike barbed wire.

Hope you will join us in this adventure, "it will be fun"!
